Airtel money

What is airtel money?
Airtel Money is a new mobile commerce service from airtel that will allow you to use your mobile phone as a mobile wallet. It will allow you to use your mobile phone to:
Pay bills - utility bills
Pay for goods and services
Direct payment for your savings and loans contributions
Buy airtime for yourself, friends and family
Purchase airtel data bundle
Send money from your airtel Money account to other airtel money customers
Send money from your airtel Money account to people on other networks
Receive money on your airtel Money account
Deposit physical cash for electronic money (e-value)
Withdraw cash from your airtel money account
Send money to and withdraw money from your bank account
Use your mobile phone to check your bank balance and request for bank mini statement


How does airtel Money work?
To put virtual money into your airtel Money account you need to go to an airtel Shops, airtel distributor shops, Authorised airtel Money Dealer outlets or any of our Partner banks and buy virtual money. With airtel Money on your account you can send virtual money to other airtel Money accounts, top up yours or someone else's airtime account, transfer money to and from bank accounts (soon), pay bills, pay for goods and services and much more. To withdraw cash from your airtel Money account you need to go to an airtel Shops, airtel distributor shops, Authorised airtel Money Dealer outlets or any of our Partner banks and transfer virtual money to the agent who will exchange this for cash.



Do I need to have a bank account to use airtel Money?

Airtel Money was designed in a way that everyone even those without bank accounts can use it. In case you have GH¢ account with any bank in Ghana you will soon easily transfer money between your airtel Money and Bank account.


Do I need to have a minimum amount in my airtel Money account like some banks ask for?
No. You can have as much or as little money in your airtel Money account as you like.

 


Do I need to pay any service charges for having an airtel Money account?
No. airtel Money is a transaction based service. You are not charged for anything other than the transactions you perform.




 


I already have a bank account. Can I access it using airtel Money?

Currently, you can access your Ecobank, SCB and Zenith bank accounts using airtel Money. Please note that it has to be an account held in GHC. You can easily transfer money between your airtel Money account and Bank account following simple steps on your phone menu. You can also transfer funds from your airtel Money account to someone else's Ecobank, Zenith or SCB bank. Any new bank that will be added will be communicated later.


Can I top up a prepaid account of any other network in Ghana using airtel Money?
Currently you can only top up airtel account with money in your airtel Money account.


Can I use airtel Money if I have no airtime credit?
Yes. In order to carry out any airtel Money transactions, you need to have enough balance in your airtel Money account to cover your transactions and charges.


Does airtel Money work across networks?
Yes. The recipient on the other network will receive a confirmation SMS with a 6 digit PIN that he/she will use to withdraw the money. To withdraw the money, the customer will need to visit an airtel Shops, airtel distributor shops, Authorised airtel Money Dealer outlets or any of our Partner banks. Customers on other networks will have ten days from transaction day to retrieve the money else, the money reverses back to the sender.


Can I register for airtel money if I am not an airtel customer?
No. airtel Money services are only available on the airtel network, so you will need to acquire an airtel line. You can also port your existing number to airtel to enjoy the airtel Money.


How do I register for airtel Money?
Go to the nearest airtel Shop, airtel distributor shop, Authorised airtel Money Dealer outlet or any of our Partner banks with a valid photo ID.


Who are the airtel Money dealers/agents?
Airtel Money dealers or agents are, generally, airtel Money branded partners in the provision of the airtel Money service. The range and type of dealers or agents are continuously being extended to maximize coverage and convenience to include small merchants, petrol station chains, supermarkets, post offices and even sole proprietorship.


I do not have the airtel Money menu under airtel services on my phone.
There are number of ways to get the airtel Money menu on your phone in case you do not have it already:
1. Send an SMS with the word"AM" to 222 or 22221(for Blackberry users) to receive the airtel MONEY menu.
2. You can contact customer care by calling 222 or 0260000222 and request the menu to be sent to your phone Over the Air (OTA) or
3. You can visit any of our airtel Shops for assistance.


What do I do in case of a wrong airtel Money transfer?
The case with wrong airtel Money transfers should be negligible as you will always have a chance to review the transaction details to confirm the information before submission and cancel the transaction before the command is sent to the airtel Money system. Note that the reversal is only possible within 5 days of performing the transaction. We will not be able to reverse the transaction after 5 days.


I did not get the SMS transaction confirmation from the airtel Money system?
There might be a number of reasons for this:
Your SMS Inbox is full so delete some SMS's to make space for new ones.
You have diverted messages to screened messages.
On some occasions there may be a delay in receiving your confirmation SMS from airtel Money. If you do not receive SMS confirmation within 20 minutes, kindly call Customer Care on 222 or 0260000222 who will advise on the status of your transaction on the airtel Money system.


What happens if the airtel network is down? Can I still use the airtel Money services?
The airtel Money system relies on the airtel Network for transaction execution. If the service is down, airtel Money will not be able to function.


What if I lose my phone / SIM card? Will I lose my airtel Money?
Airtel Money services are safe even if you lose your phone. All your transactions are protected by the highest level of security and your password. You can replace your SIM card in any of our airtel outlet facilities. Your airtel Money account will be immediately available to you following completion of the SIM card replacement process. As soon as you find out that your phone is lost or stolen immediately alert Customer Care on 222or 0260000222.


What if I forget my airtel Money password?
If you forget your airtel Money password please call Customer Care on 222 or 0260000222 to reset your airtel Money password. A Customer Care representative will need to verify your account with the information you provided during registration. Make sure the data you are providing matches what you used on your registration form. After successful verification you will receive an SMS confirming password reset to default password 1234. For security purposes you will not be able to conduct any further activity unless you change the default password.


How many times can I change my airtel Money password?
There is no limit established by the system for individual airtel Money password changes.


Where can I cash-in or cash-out?
Cash-in and cash-out can be done at any airtel Shop, airtel distributor shop, Authorised airtel Money Dealer outlet or any of our Partner banks.


How do I check my account balance?
To check your account balance, go to 'My account' section on the airtel Money menu and select the Balance option. Enter your PIN and your balance will display.


How do I track the activities on my airtel Money Account?
You track all your airtel Money account activities directly from your phone using various reports located under My account section (last 2 transactions, transaction status, previous day, summary of the day and last month summary).


Will I receive interest on my money in my airtel Money account?
NO, you will not receive any interest on the money you have in your airtel Money account.


How safe is my Money on my airtel Money Account?
Your money is safe since every transaction uses a very high encryption standard that adheres to highest banking security standards and your password. In addition to this your airtime account and airtel Money account are kept separate.


What is the Nick-Name and how can I use it?
To further protect your privacy and security the nickname functionality was created. You can create or change it any time using the 'Change nickname' option in the 'My account' section on the airtel Money menu on your phone. The nickname can be utilised to protect your privacy; send and receive money without disclosing your phone number


If the system deducts money from my account what happens?
This should never happen and all such reported cases will be escalated by calling 222 for investigation.


What does the error message 'account locked' mean?
You either did not change the default password hence your airtel Money account was locked, you entered a transaction amount higher than the amount in your airtel Money account 5 times or you performed an incorrect password entry 5 times. Call customer care on 222 or 0260000222 or visit an airtel shop for your password to be reset to default and immediately change the password to be able to transact using airtel Money.


What are the charges for airtel Money transactions?
The Transaction Fee due to airtel will be automatically deducted from your airtel Money account for chargeable transactions. In addition to this airtel will from time to time publish recommended "cash-in" and "cash-out" fees.


Are there any hidden charges?
